Established in 1995.
Analytical & Consulting Services was founded by Sharlyn Franco in 1995. She started ACS in her basement on the northside of Sioux City, Iowa. Ms. Franco has a passion for chemistry, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to providing accurate results. These attributes have helped her build a strong client base. In 2001, Sharlyn purchased a lab in Sgt. Bluff, Iowa. In late 2006, ACS outgrew that location of 900 square feet. Within the year, ACS started building a new 4,000 sq. feet facility in Sgt. Bluff. By the end of 2007, ACS moved into its new location. A decade later, ACS is expanding that location, serving to more than a 100 clients and providing the same dedication that Sharlyn started with 25 years ago.

Sharlyn Franco is the President, CEO, and Founder of ACS. She graduated from Buena Vista University with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and Biology. She has worked in the Environmental Sciences for over 37 years. At ACS, she manages all aspects of the business, including environmental compliance, consulting and laboratory testing to ensure the exemplary quality of work that ACS has become known for.
Ron Cook has worked for ACS for over nine years. He has made himself irreplaceable through his precise and no-nonsense work ethic, performing a multitude of tests including alkalinity, calcium, hardness, chloride, iron, magnesium, manganese, silica, conductivity, oil and grease, unionized hydrogen sulfide, ortho phosphate, total phosphate, protein, ash, moisture, volatile solids, and fats testing.
Daniel O’Brien, a resident of Sergeant Bluff, has shown diligence for accuracy and timeliness in his testing. Daniel has lived in Sioux City area most of his life and has shown an enthusiasm for environmental issues and topics from an early age and this passion carries over into the work he does here. Daniel currently attends Western Iowa Tech Community College getting his Associate of Arts degree. He then intends on transferring to Morningside College to Complete a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Daniel’s typical duties around the lab include TSS, TDS, and Oil & Grease testing as well as handle some marketing and customer service needs at ACS.

David Henriquez is a talented young man who has shown a deep interest in the work we do here at ACS. David has also shown himself to be an asset with a wide area of knowledge relating to networking and I.T. and the attention to detail he shows in running hull analysis and various microbiological analysis as well.

Bill Franco, a proud Sioux City native and co-owner of ACS, started his work in the environmental field in 1995. This has netted him an impressive 22 years' experience. Although Bill is proficient in several areas of laboratory testing, he currently performs a majority of the sampling responsibilities such as storm-water, wastewater, drinking water, personnel sampling and air monitoring for ACS clients.
Austin Franco, son of owners Sharlyn and Bill Franco, started helping his parents with BODS at the ripe old age of 14. Since then, he comes in to help when the lab needs it. He has been involved with other testing in the past, but usually sticks to Oil and Grease, TSS, and TDS. He is voraciously learning new tests and business logistics with the hope of continuing and expanding the company name in the future.
Greg Myerchin, a Sioux City native and alumnus of Creighton University who majored in economics. After college Greg moved back to Sioux City and started a 30+ year career at Wilson Trailer Company in their personnel and cost accounting department. At ACS Greg oversees the testing of Sulfide and Conductivity analysis as well as occasionally assisting in administrative tasks.
Alex Munoz a West High graduate who also attained his General Studies from Western Iowa Tech. Alex uses his rigid sense of precision to ensure all the BOD and COD testing he does is extremely accurate. Alex’s passion for environmental sustainability drives his beliefs and actions both inside and outside ACS, he always strives to increase his knowledge on environmental testing and regulation. Alex has also extended his skills to PH and sulfide testing.
Bookkeeper | Lab Technician
Theresa Meredith is a life-long Sergeant Bluff native with a Bachelors of Science in math, as well as over eight years’ experience in the field of environmental science. She oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and performs environmental reporting and compliance work for client companies. She also manages BOD, cBOD, and COD testing, to name a few.
Alex Gray, A graduate of Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School, has proven himself to be a valuable asset to everyone here at ACS. While he is still working on attaining his B.S. in chemistry he has already shown an acute knowledge for chemistry. Alex’s attention to detail has also been proven by showing proficiency in his testing, To date Alex has been trained to run total Kjehldahl nitrogen, ammonia, protein, sulfide, sulfite, alkalinity, iron, hardness, calcium, magnesium, and manganese testing.
Joseph Franco, the youngest son of Sharlyn and Bill Franco, is a recent graduate from Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School. Joseph brings a deep interest in chemistry, determination to learn, and shining interpersonal skills with the goal of one day inheriting the family business. Joey has shown aptitude for a wide range of roles in the lab. Joseph is in the process of learning multiple tests including Sulfide and BOD. Joey is also learning other functions in the lab like environmental compliance reporting, while also working on attaining his B.S. in Chemistry.
Michael Barrett is the friendly face on the front end of ACS. A graduate of Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Michael appreciates that he can be a part if environmental compliance so close to home. Michael handles many administrative tasks and customer service interactions for us here at the lab. From answering the phone to reporting information to clients Michael has shown accuracy and timeliness when handling client’s valuable information.
